California Heights Neighborhood of Long Beach California

Nestled south of the Bixby Knolls neighborhood in Long Beach is the historical area of California Heights. This community is comprised of approximately 1200 homes, predominantly Spanish Colonial Revival homes constructed in the late 1920s. Craftsman bungalows and Tudor Revival can also be found. California Heights is bordered by Wardlow St. to the south, Bixby Rd. to the north, Gardenia St. to the east, and Lime St. to the west.

California Heights was originally part of the Bixby Ranch and was used primarily as grazing land. In the early 1920s, the Bixby family began to subdivide and sell off lots in the California Heights area, this land boom was caused by the discovery of oil on Signal Hill. The California Heights area grew rapidly with approximately 250 families moving into the neighborhood within two years. Most of the building was complete by 1939. Large mature trees and vintage street lights enhance the neighborhood ambience.

Homes for sale in the California Heights neighborhood range in price from $450,000 to around $700,000.
