A beautiful neighborhood of homes developed in the early 20th Century of Long Beach close to the ocean is Belmont Heights. This community extends from 4th St to the south to 7th St to the north and Roswell St to the east and Newport Ave. to the west. Craftsman bungalow style predominates 2/3 of the homes in the area, though many Victorian homes still remain. Peak period of construction for Belmont Heights occurred from 1918 to 1923, but the period of architectural significance is from 1905 to 1939.

In 1908 the citizens of Belmont Heights asked the city of Long Beach to build the neighborhood a pier, and they were denied. Because of this refusal, the neighborhood decided to break away from Long Beach and formed their own city called CITY OF BELMONT HEIGHTS. After just one year, the residents voted to rejoin the city of Long Beach, which had now agreed to build them their pier in exchange for their tax base. Construction of the pier began in 1911 and was completed four years later. The pier is now called the BELMONT VETERANS MEMORIAL PIER.

Wide streets with stately homes dominate the area, and the cool ocean breeze is almost constantly felt in this beautiful Long Beach community. Homes range in price from $625,000 for a smaller California bungalow style home to over $2,000,000 for larger Spanish style houses that have retained their charm over the years. Condos in Belmont Heights range in price from $250,000 to $800,000 for a unit next to the ocean with water views.
